“Threatened: The Docking State Office Building”

This article attempts to synthesize the eleven-year history underlying the Docking State Office Building in Topeka’s current status, with a complicated chronology of decisions, inactions, and misinformation over an eleven year span. This outlines the complex layers leading to the public building’s current status as poised for demolition despite its state and national register listings, including the new advocacy organization (for which I was a co-founder and am on the Board of Directors) Plains Modern’s filing of a Petition for Judicial Review, and perhaps most importantly to articulate that recent decisions expose flaws in the current state statute for all government-owned historic resources.
