This was the third and final article published in conjunction with our grant for the “Survey of Post-War Modernist Architecture in Manhattan.” Assistant Professor Christopher Fein and I were invited to submit a three-part article series for the bimonthly Manhattan/Riley Country Preservation Alliance Newsletter. Published in June 2022, this essay focuses on postwar development in downtown Manhattan, Kansas where we identified certain zones that had accrued a number fo modernist works. It is suggested that some areas might be considered for an historic district listing, or warrant the expansion of the currently-defined historic district listing.
